Through our ethos, curriculum, and programme offerings, the Department of Fine Arts engages students in highly experiential learning, building expertise and experimentation through critique, process, and concept.
The Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Painting and Sculpture is a four-year professional undergraduate programme designed for aspiring artists passionate about exploring and mastering traditional and contemporary art practices. This course provides a rigorous and dynamic curriculum that fosters creativity, technical proficiency, and critical thinking through hands-on studio work and theoretical engagement.
Students begin with foundational courses in drawing, design, and art history, and gradually progress to specialized training in painting and sculpture. The programme nurtures individual expression while grounding students in the principles of form, material, composition, and conceptual development. With access to well-equipped studios and mentoring by experienced faculty, students experiment with a range of media, from oils, acrylics, and watercolors to clay, wood, metal, and mixed media installations.
Through exhibitions, critiques, workshops, and collaborative projects, students gain exposure to diverse artistic approaches and professional practices. By the final year, they develop a personal portfolio and a capstone project that reflects their unique artistic voice and conceptual depth.
Graduates are well-prepared to pursue careers as practicing artists, illustrators, sculptors, curators, art educators, or continue with postgraduate studies in the Fine Arts.

Course of Independent study is an avenue where students may take-up a real-world problem and propose solutions to the same through rigourous research and/or experimentation. Those who opt for a CIS credit will be expected to ready a publication-worthy research finding through the guidance of a faculty supervisor. The School will publish their list of projects/topics annually and students may opt for one of these.
In addition to the list of activities in the guidelines, the school encourages students to participate in academic conferences, literary events, film festivals, art/theatre/video productions or departmental magazines for which activity points may be accorded upon the recommendations of the respective Heads of the Departments.
